Shop ahead. If you know you have a special occasion coming up, and you need the perfect outfit, start looking well in advance. This gives you the opportunity to check all the stores and even order online. Wait too long, and you could have to settle for whatever fits. In most stores, the plus size section is a lot smaller than the 'regular' clothes, meaning the selection also leaves something to be desired. Look for clothes that can be used elsewhere. This won't reduce the price of any individual garment, but it does mean that you can make part of your budget do double duty. If you can find a formal dress that doubles for work, part of your problem is solved.

Branch out and try new stores. If you never venture beyond your favorite store, you could be missing out on a lot of fantastic bargains! Consider your budget when buying""it's okay to wear an outfit assembled from a handful of stores if it saves you money. Watch brand names closely. Some are known to stand for high-quality products that really do outlast and outperform generic brands; others are practically identical except for the huge markup in price. Smart plus size consumers know to inspect both the price tag and the brand name carefully when purchasing a new item.

Don't go too cheap! It's easy to go for the cheapest item that fits. However, you'll want your special occasion garment to last. This is especially true of plus sized clothes, since ones that really fit and look good can be hard to come by. Make sure that you're spending your money on a garment that's really well made. This keeps you from having to buy another one soon afterward.

Be a smart shopper. Use these tips when on the hunt for new clothes. Check your favorite store circulars for special sales. Once in the store always remember to check for mark downed items. Save money by looking for bargains. Look your best by considering quality and a good match for your plus size first. High prices don't necessarily mean quality and the best style and fit for you.
